THE trailer for the big screen debut of iconic computer game hero Sonic the Hedgehog has officially landed online.
Here, we take a closer look at the hotly anticipated film.
Sonic the Hedgehog is released on November 8, 2019.
Judging by the trailer, the speedy blue hero will be battling long time nemesis Dr Robotnik.
There is still no confirmation on the actual storyline, although the new preview suggests that Sonic may be from another planet.
In the trailer, he says: “Basically, it looks like I’m going to have to save your planet.”
Ben Schwartz from Parks and Recreation is voicing the titular character while Westworld actor James Marsden plays a local sheriff who appears to befriend Sonic.
Golden Globe winner Jim Carrey plays villain Dr Robotnik.
The first Sonic game, Sonic the Hedgehog, was a 2D platformer released on the Sega Genesis console in 1991.
Since then, the series has spawned dozens of titles, making the leap from home consoles to handhelds and mobile.
The most recent title was Sonic Forces on the PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
The Sonic series is one of the world's biggest gaming franchises, with more than 140 million games sold.
Five animated TV shows have been produced based on the Sonic games.
