CRUISE ship workers have jumped online to give brutally honest accounts of what it’s like to work at sea.
As well as being able to travel the world on the job, it turns out that working on board ship is a lot less boring than you might expect.
From secret sex sessions to crazy parties, anonymous crew members have revealed six facts about what really goes on behind closed cabin doors…
Crew hook-ups are frequent
Staff members hanging out at a crew party are likely to get lucky, confessed a number of cruise ship workers.
Reddit user MirtaGev admitted that “everyone sleeps with everyone”, while another anonymous employee added: “Sex? Yep that’s easy to get”.
The work is tougher than you’d expect
Even though many crew workers admit that there’s a buzz and party atmosphere on board ship, the majority confessed that the work is harder than you’d expect.
A Reddit user said: “Crew members are super hard working and work weeks are 70 hours a week without a single day off for 6-8 months at a time.”
Even though the work is tough, another commenter said: “It’s a hard lifestyle to maintain and sleep is limited if you’re social and want to go ashore at the same time.
“But in my opinion, totally worth it.”
There’s a great party atmosphere
Even though staff often have to work gruelling hours, many of the Reddit users admitted that this didn’t stop them letting their hair down.
There’s no doubt that there’d be some sore heads on an early shift, as one worker admitted: “There is a crew only bar, and beers are $1.50 (around £1.14)”.
Others revealed that crew parties often started after midnight, when most of the guests would be heading to bed.
Hanky panky with passengers is prohibited
While it’s common for staff members to get frisky with one another, they have to keep it professional with guests.
If cruise workers are caught having inappropriate relations with travellers, they can be harshly disciplined.

One Reddit user explained: “You get busted, you have a masters hearing and you’re sent home at the next port.”
To avoid any legal trouble, the crew member revealed that workers aren’t even allowed to get in a lift with guests if they’re the only two people in it.
Staff don’t get the same perks
It turns out that cruise workers don’t get their hands on the same delicious food that’s offered up to the guests.
While several anonymous staff members claimed that the food was “inedible”, one even admitted: “I would have rather slept on my 30 minute dinner break than eaten the horrible food they provided.”
Travelling the world is the biggest bonus
A major bonus of working at no fixed location is that you get to soak up the sights when the boat stops off at different ports.
One content cruise worker said: “In five years on cruise ships I literally travelled the world. I basically visited every continent except Antarctica and went to over 75 countries.”
Another agreed: “The travelling was fantastic and I travelled the world.
“My favourite part being the very north of Norway where in the summer the sun didn't set and there was sunlight all day long.”
