TUI warning as airline changes flights to different Florida airport – affecting Disney holidays

TUI has changed the airport which Brits will land at when visiting Orlando - which will make it harder for Disney holidays.

Flights from the UK will now land at Orlando Melbourne, which is nearly 80 miles from Disney World.

Previously, flights landed at Orlando Sandford Airport, which was just 40 miles away.

The change is expected to add an extra 30 minutes onto the journey, although could take much longer during busier holiday periods.

Flights departing from Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh will be affected.

Other airlines, such as British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, fly directly to Orlando International Airport, which is less than 20 miles from Disney World.

It's a short 20-minute drive, and there are direct shuttle buses as well.

However, there is some good news for any Brits who aren't planning on visiting the theme parks when visiting Orlando.

The airport is on Florida's "Space Coast", and is the closest airport to the Kennedy Space Centre.

It's also just a few miles from some of Orlando's popular beaches as well as Port Canaveral, which has a number of cruises including the Disney cruises.

The airline announced it would be making the change back in 2019, when Dawn Wilson, managing director of TUI Airways said: "Our new Orlando gateway will be perfectly situated to offer TUI UK customers total flexibility in designing their holiday around any combination of theme parks, beaches or cruising."

A couple recently went to Disney World after they got married - and they shut down the whole of Magic Kingdom for a fairytale wedding after party.

Guests could ride rollercoasters without having to wait in line, eat Disney-themed food and dance in front of the iconic Cinderella's Castle.

In other TUI news, Brits with upcoming holiday plans have been warned not to fall victim to an online phishing scam.

The travel operator has been made aware of a scam where some of its customers have received from an unknown account, asking them to send personal information in an email.

TUI warned people not to respond to the tweet or to send any details to the email address, and to contact them if they are unsure whether it's genuine.

The airline has also scrapped its face mask policy onboard its flights, so passengers on flights to and from England and Northern Ireland no longer have to wear them.

Other airlines have also ditched mandatory masks, including British AirwaysJet2 and easyJet, and Ryanair is expected to do the same in the coming weeks.
