Plans for closed UK airport to restart flights within two years – in big boost for Brit holidaymakers

A CLOSED British airport could be reopened within the next two years in a boost for holidaymakers.
Doncaster Sheffield Airport, described as "best in the country", could be relaunched.
The airport, also known as Robin Hood, closed last November after its owners the Peel Group said it was not “commercially viable” to keep it open.
Now South Yorkshire’s Labour Metro Mayor and Labour-run Doncaster Council appear to be about to hammer out a deal with Peel.
If successful the settlement could see planes taking off from the airport again.
A new assessment by consultancy giant EY found that reopening the airport could be profitable within five years and deliver up to £1.5 billion to the region in jobs and increased land value, reports
Oliver Coppard, South Yorkshire’s Labour Metro Mayor, said to : "Since the future of Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) was first threatened, we’ve always said we would do whatever we could to save our airport.
“The government have given up on their promises to the north - from helping with DSA to HS2 - but we’re determined to make sure we stay connected.
"Thanks to the tireless work of people and partners across South Yorkshire it now looks like there could be light at the end of the tunnel.”
Doncaster Sheffield, which opened in 2006, was even once voted the best UK airport in the UK.
