The new Star Wars was filmed in Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands – one of the top British holiday destinations
The Canary island of Fuerteventura is known for its windswept beaches and is a hot spot for water sports

STAR Wars fans will be pleased to find out that they can visit the set of Solo: A Star Wars Story very easily indeed – with no space travel involved at all.
That’s because parts of it were filmed in British holiday favourite - Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands.
The Spanish island – a tourist hotspot known for its miles of sandy beaches and year-round sun – has long been a favourite with Brits.
Now it will be immortalised in the new spin-off Star Wars film, which is out in May.
The sandy deserts and volcanic landscape of the island lend the perfect backdrop to tell the story of Han Solo’s early days on board the Millennium Falcon.
The film is a closely-guarded secret – but pictures show battles taking place in sand dunes - a familiar sight to Star Wars fans.
While Disney is keeping the film top-secret until its release, it's believed that filming took place in the Costa Calma area of the island.
We’ve got everything you’ll want to know for a trip to the island – including where to stay, where to visit and how to find cheap flights.
What is there to do in Fuerteventura?
The island has a whole 90 miles of beaches in total and around 150 to explore.
Corralejo is on the north-east tip of the island is over six miles long - so you won't be fighting for space to put down your towel, either.
Or head to Cofete beach on the south of the island for more deserted beaches which is framed by the Jandia mountains - which look very Star Wars-like to us.
If you want to do more than lie on a beach all day then you'll find that activities like surfing, windsurfing and water skiing are in abundance.
If you want to head to see where the new movie was filmed then head to Costa Calma, where filming took place.
Costa Calma's long, sandy beach sees windsurfing championships take place, and nearby Sotavento beach is also great for water sports.
There's also a big water park called at Corralejo which the whole family will enjoy.
The village of Betancuria is worth a village for its seventeenth century church and whitewashed stone houses.
And when you're on the island you'll want to try its seafood such as black limpets and parrot fish, as well as grilled octopus.
The island is also known for its huge population of goats, so make sure to try the local delicacy of Majorero goats cheese.
Fuerteventura is less about rowdy nightlife and more about relaxing and unwinding, but the island of Lanzarote is just 25 minutes by ferry from Corralejo to Playa Blanco if you're after a wild night out.
