There are SECRET decks on cruise ships that you wouldn’t know about – and this is how to get in

Cruise ships are big and busy places - but there's a way to get some respite away from the masses

THERE’S a lot going on on a cruise ship – but what many don’t know is that the boats have secret decks to explore.

These areas offer a little respite away from the rest of the boat and are the ideal place to chill out.

The reveals that the secret decks are mostly unknown public observation balconies, often at the front of the ship that are accessed through side doors.

These decks are sometimes restricted due to high winds and at night, but can be accessed by passengers when they’re not.

Secret decks can be found on Carnival Fantasy ships on deck eight and 11.

On Carnival’s Destiny, Triumph and Conquest ships, they are on deck five, six, seven, nine and ten.

Carnival Spirit and Pride shops do not have the secret decks.

Royal Caribbean ships have a helipad on deck five where passengers can head for some of the best views on the ship.

On board Princess Island Cruise ships, there are decks called Baja and Aloha, behind doors that have signs reading “keep doors closed” on them.

Sun Online Travel previously revealed the secret language that cruise workers use on board ships so that guests don't know when something goes wrong.

There are several words they use for everything from a man overboard to a pile of vomit - and it's bad news if your name happens to be Oscar.

Travel expert Brandon Presser revealed some of the phrases to listen out for - and their hidden meanings.

He said:  “A ‘30-30’ means the crew is asking maintenance to clean up a mess."

He continued: “Three times during my stint [as cruise director on a large ship] I called in a “PVI” (public vomiting incident)."

"An ‘Alpha’ is a medical emergency,  a Bravo’ is a fire, and 'Kilo’ is a request for all personnel to report to their emergency posts - in the event of, say, a necessary evacuation."
