A SMALL resort town in Western Turkey has been painted multi-coloured as part of a world-wide project.

Kuşadası, located off the Aegean coast, is popular with tourists thanks to its proximity to Ephesus, a busy cruise port for travellers.

The town has been painted in the spectrum of the rainbow thanks to Paint company

It  ims to bring colour to underprivileged communities, having previously painted approximately 2,300 areas around the world including Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and China.

AkzoNobel and paint brand Marshall undertook the project and painted 400 buildings in a neighbourhood which is home to 2,000 residents.

More than 50,000 litres of paints in shades of blue, green, yellow, orange, pink and purple were used in the biggest project of the scheme in Turkey so far.

The area was derelict and run down for decades with one local calling the place "dirty and scary" before the renovation.

Local residents have enjoyed the change, with one saying in the video: "We wanted to leave this place but now we're happy."

One man even decided to open the first coffee shop on what he called the "Colourful Hill".

Kuşadası Mayor Özer Kayalı said: "This is a crucial location for us, as it’s the first place seen by tourists when they arrive at Kuşadası port.

"It makes for a striking panorama, which is why we believe this project will make a great contribution to our community."

Other colourful towns around the world include Kampung Pelangi in Indonesia, which locals decided to paint in 2017 to attract tourists, and Pachuca in Mexico.
