KNOWING the hotel lingo can mean getting extra access to cheap room rates.
And as one expert reveals, to get the best deal, guests should use three specific words when speaking to the front desk.
According to , asking for the "best deal" or "lowest rate" is not the way to bag a cheap night.
Instead, you should be asking for the "cheapest nonrefundable rate" instead - but make sure you're speaking directly with the hotel's front desk.
If that doesn't work, then they recommend booking a refundable reservation and looking around for a better deal.
The hotel can then either offer to match it or give a full refund to go elsewhere.
Hotels are often able to give a better deal if you're booking directly than if using hotel booking websites.
Guests could also find themselves with a better view if they choose to book with the hotel instead of through third party websites.
A former hotel manager said hotels save the rooms with the best view for the direct bookers as they don't like paying the commission with the third party.
Last month, it was revealed that hotel booking websites were using misleading methods to get shoppers to book, such as by saying there were less rooms available.
