Holby City fans in tears after ghost of Raf di Lucca appears to help his cancer stricken wife

HOLBY City fans were left in tears tonight when the the ghost of Raf di Lucca appeared to help his cancer stricken wife.
Actor Joe McFadden played the role of the surgeon for four years before he was killed off in a shock exit storyline in 2017.
Raf was shot dead by Fredrik, the son of Holby City's CEO Hanssen, during a crazed rampage throughout the hospital.
Now in emotional scenes tonight, he returned in spirit form to help his wife Essie deal with her recent cancer diagnosis.
The nurse, played by Kaye Wragg, has had to decide whether or not to continue with her palliative care treatment after learning her cancer was terminal.
But in scenes tonight she was seen asking her dead husband "why this was happening" to her and "why she had to die".
Essie was overcome with emotion at seeing her dead husband.
He could be seen giving her words of wisdom to be move on with her life.
Raf told Essie to be "happy" with the time that she has left, following her diagnosis.
This was all too much for fans who took to Twitter to share their anguish.
One said: "Raf's words and the fact he isn't here anymore is really making my heart hurt. #HolbyCity"
While this one tweeted: "Raf's speech was lovely. Sage words for a dead man. #HolbyCity"
Another said: "I love the way they've brought back Raf as a ghost lovely to see him #HolbyCity"
Before tonight's show Joe told : "I’ll always look back on my four years on Holby with such fondness as it was one of the happiest jobs I’ve done and it was a real pleasure to get to wear Raf’s scrubs one last time in order to offer his wife Essie some guidance in such a touching episode."
A show insider added: "It's incredibly moving to see Essie speaking to her beloved Raf again, just as she needs him the most.
"It's going to be emotional."
Soon after Joe left the BBC drama in 2017, he went on to lift the Strictly Come Dancing glitterball trophy, winning the comp with professional dancer Katya Jones.
Last year, he performed in a touring production of the musical Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
