BBC confirms outrageous new drama Black Narcissus about ‘perverted and sinful’ nuns will drop this Christmas

THE BBC have confirmed that their new outrageous drama Black Narcissus, which is about "perverted and sinful" nuns will drop this Christmas.

It comes after the public service broadcaster released their impressive line-up of festive telly for this year - which also include the return of Call the Midwife, Doctor Who and The Vicar of Dibley.

The new BBC/FX drama, which explores the sexual repression and forbidden love of a group of religious women, is adapted from Rumer Godden's 1939 novel of the same name.

Set in the 1930s, a group of nuns travel to Nepal to set up a branch in their order with their fellow sisters in South Asia.

One nun in particular, Sister Clodagh (Gemma Arterton), finds herself in a bit of bother after she starts to develop feelings towards a handsome veteran called Mr Dean.

Little do the nuns know that the place they have moved to in the remote palace of Mopu is actually nicknamed the House of Women, because of what forbidden sexual things have gone on there in the past.

Back in September the official trailer was released and gave an insight into what viewers should expect for the three-parties series.

Words such as 'paradise', 'perversion' and 'sin' flew onto the screen while the nuns try to fight back on their temptations and their sexual desires.

Black Narcissus is written by Amanda Coe and the likes of The Fall's Aisling Franciosi, Friday Night Dinner's Rosie Cavaliero, Patsy Ferran, Karen Bryson and Dipika Kunwar will start in the show.

Dame Diana Rigg, who sadly passed away in September aged 82, also appears on as Mother Dorothea.

Announcing the series back in 2017, writer Amanda said: "I'm thrilled to be adapting Black Narcissus for BBC One.

"It's a truly extraordinary love story, as well as a brilliantly unsettling piece of 20th century gothic about the power of a place to get under your skin and the dangers of refusing to learn from history."

Black Narcissus will air in the UK on BBC One in December, having premiered on FX in the US on Monday, November 23.
