The Carrie Bradshaw actress revealed earlier this year that she is set to reunite with Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon for an exciting new instalment of the US sitcom.

It will make its long-awaited return on HBO Max and Hugh is thought to be "at the top" of their list to star in the show.

A source told the Mirror: "Sarah Jessica has it in her head that she needs a big - and I mean big - male star in SATC reunion ensemble to help smooth over the absence of Kim [Cattrall] and the potentially diminished role with Chris Noth, whose deal to return is not yet done and whose exact role is still being figured out."

Hugh recently had viewers gripped when he appeared in HBO's The Undoing alongside Nicole Kidman.

They added: "At the top of SJP and HBO Max’s wishlist to join the series is Hugh Grant, who loves the show and had a great time working with Sarah Jessica in the past, and with HBO just last year on his massive hit The Undoing.’

"And the money’s there to bring in Hugh and pay him his full freight."

This would not be the first time that Hugh and Jessica have teamed up together.

They previously starred in 90s thriller Extreme Measures and 2009 romcom Did You Head About the Morgans?.

The reboot however will not feature TV favourite Kim Cattrall who played saucy character Samantha Jones.

The star will be noticeably absent  with co-star Sarah, in the 10 half-hour episodes scheduled to begin production in spring.

Sarah revealed the trailer's exciting scenes of Downtown New York and the city's iconic yellow cabs before she could be heard saying: "And just like that."

Alongside, she posted the teasing caption: "I couldn’t help but wonder… where are they now? X,SJ," before she tagged the name of the next instalment - And Just Like That - and TV channel producer HBO Max.

The Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning series, based on the books by Candace Bushell, began in 1998, airing for six instalments.

The original series, which ran on HBO from 1998-2004, saw  as Carrie, Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes and Kristin Davis as Charlotte York, as well as Kim as Samantha.

In addition to the original series, two Sex and the City movies came out in 2008 and 2010.
