Is Loki bisexual?

Yes, in the Disney+ series Loki is revealed to be bisexual, making him Marvel‘s first on-screen bisexual character.

His sexuality was confirmed in a conversation between Tom Hiddleston’s character and Lady Loki, who also goes by Sylvie.

In episode three of the series, Loki and Sylvie discuss their dating history.

Sylvie says: “Must’ve been would – be – princess or perhaps, another prince?”

Loki replies, saying “a bit of both, I suspect the same as you” - implying that he has had both male and female partners.

Director Kate Herron confirmed the interpretation on Twitter, saying the move was "important" for her.

She wrote: "From the moment I joined it was very important to me, and my goal, to acknowledge Loki was bisexual. It is a part of who he is and who I am too.

"I know this is a small step but I’m happy, and heart is so full, to say that this is now Canon in "

What does bisexual mean?

Bisexuality is romantic attraction to more than one gender.

Those who identify as bisexual can feel a sexual and/or romantic attraction to both men and women.

Research has shown that many bisexual people are attracted more to one gender than another.

Is Loki genderfluid?

Yes, judging by the new teaser that Marvel have released for the new series.

In the clip, we are shown the TVA (Time Variance Authority) paperwork that Loki submitted.

Crucially, Loki's sex is not written as "female" or "male" - instead, it is described as “fluid.”

Loki head writer Michael Waldron has commented on the revelation.

Waldron told : “I know how many people identify with Loki in particular and are eager for that representation, especially with this character,”

“We worked really hard.”

However, Waldron credited the reputation of Loki’s genderfluid identity to director Kate Herron.

He said: "That was so important to Kate, that we did that justice. Everyone will have to watch and see."

Loki actor Tom Hiddleston said: “It's always been there in the comics for some time and in the history of the character for hundreds, if not thousands of years,”

“Breadth and range of identity contained in the character has been emphasized and is something I was always aware of when I was first cast 10 years ago," he added.

"I know it was important to Kate Herron and Michael Waldron and to the whole team. And we were very aware, this is something we felt responsible for."

In the mythology, Loki's powers derive from his shapeshifting ability.

This news doesn't come as a shock to long-time Marvel fans.

In J. Michael Straczynski, Marko Djurdjevic, and Olivier Coipel’s 2008 Thor series, Loki shapeshifts into villain known as Lady Loki.

What does genderfluid mean?

The word genderfluid is used to describe a person who does not identify themselves as having a fixed gender.

A genderfluid person may identify as male at times, and as female at other times.

The shift can happen quickly or over a matter of years.

Some genderfluid people choose to express their gender outwardly, through pronouns or appearance - and others may not.
