What is Fear Street about?

Fear Street is set in Shadyside, a town which appears to be cursed.

Serial killers and mass murders are a regular occurrence in Shadyside - but in the neighbouring affluent town of Sunnyvale, everything is fine.

The trilogy centres around Deena, whose girlfriend Sam has moved to Sunnyvale to date slimy football player Peter.

After a mass murder in a shopping mall, Deena’s brother Josh is more interested in solving Shadyside's curse than consoling his heartbroken sister.

The pattern seems to point back to a woman named Sarah Fier (hint: ounds like Fear) who was executed in 1666.

The official synopsis reads: "In 1994, a group of teenagers discovers that the terrifying events that have haunted their town for generations may all be connected — and that they may be the next targets.

"Based on R.L. Stine’s best selling horror series, the trilogy follows the nightmare through Shadyside’s sinister history."

Like Netflix's Stranger Things, the movies will take inspiration from classic genres.

There are three movies in total - Fear Street Part 1: 1994, Fear Street Part 2: 1978, and Fear Street Part 3: 1666.

Why does Fear Street have an R rating?

The three films are based on The Fear Street teen books by RL Stine.

Although the series is designed for teen readers, the movie adaptations are not.

Part 1 is rated R in the US and 18 in the UK due to strong bloody violence, drug content, language and some sexual content.

RL Stine said: "Readers know that the book series is rated PG. But the movies are rated R. That means a lot more thrills — and a lot more terror!

"I have seen Leigh Janiak's epic trilogy releasing on Netflix in July and I can tell you the scares and the SCREAMS are more than I ever expected.

"What fun to see the horrors of Shadyside come to life!"

The film is not suitable for younger viewers, due to multiple sexual references and frequent extensive horror violence.

There is also swearing, as well as references to prescription drugs misuse.
