For two seasons, Sara Ramirez played Che Diaz; the love interest of Cynthia Nixon's Miranda Hobbes.
What has Sara Ramirez said about playing Che Diaz?
Before And Just Like That...'s Season 1 finale, Ramirez opened up to about their character.
They told the outlet: "I don't recognize myself in Che.
"I'm very aware of the hate that exists online, but I have to protect my own mental health and my own artistry.
"And that's way more important to me because I'm a real human being.
"I'm really proud of the representation that we've created."
"We have built a character who is a human being, who is imperfect, who's complex, who is not here to be liked, who's not here for anybody's approval."
When pointing out that they are "not in control of the writing," Ramirez added: "I welcome the passion that folks are bringing to the table around this representation.
"But in real life, there are a lot of different human beings who show up to the table, speaking truth to power in myriad ways.

"And they all land differently with different people. And Che Diaz has their own audience that they speak to who really get a kick out of what they're doing."
Ramirez expressed similar sentiments to and said: "I think there are people like Che out in the world, and I think that opinions about whether Che is representing an authentically queer person or not is not for me to answer.
"It’s exciting to have Che be a disruption to the mainstream."
On the show, Che is a queer non-binary podcaster and comedian who works with Sarah Jessica Parker's character, Carrie Bradshaw.
Why did Sara leave And Just Like That?
On January 17, 2024, it was revealed Sara was not returning for AJLT season 3.
An insider told : "Sara was fired because Che brought nothing to the show anymore.
"After Che split with Miranda, the character really held no value anymore and fans found them annoying.
"The storyline as a struggling comedian was a waste of airtime and Sara knew it.
"Sara needs to accept that this is not Grey’s Anatomy and her character was not a pivotal part of the storyline."
While appearing to allude to their dismissal from the show, Sara shared with their Instagram followers: "Our industry is so duplicitous.
"It's wild how performative so many in Hollywood are. Even more performative than the last character I played."
Who is Sara Ramirez?
Born on August 31, 1975, Ramirez is known as a Mexican-American actor, singer, songwriter, and activist.
Ramirez was born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa but moved to the United States when they were only eight years old.
After graduating from the Juilliard School with a BFA, they then went on to start a career in the entertainment industry.
Over the years, they have been seen in many shows and films including Chicago, Marvel's 2002 Spider-Man, Madam Secretary, You've Got Mail, and Grey's Anatomy, where they portrayed the role of Dr. Callie Torres, one of the longest-running LGBTQ+ characters in US television history.
From 2012 to 2018, Ramirez also lent their voice to Disney's Sofia the First for the role of Queen Miranda.
