Game Of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke says ‘quite a bit’ of her brain is missing after two aneurysms

GAME Of Thrones’ Emilia Clark says “quite a bit” of her brain is missing and that is amazing she can still speak following two aneurysms almost a decade ago.
The actress suffered two brain aneurysms and underwent surgery during the filming of the hit HBO series in 2011 and 2013.
Emilia, 35, spoke about the after effects of the surgeries on BBC’s Sunday Morning.
She explained: “The amount of my brain that is no longer usable – it’s remarkable that I am able to speak, sometimes articulately, and live my life completely normally with absolutely no repercussions.
“I am in the really, really, really small minority of people that can survive that.”
Emilia said doctors showed her a scan of her brain following the procedure which left her stunned.

She said of her brain: “There’s quite a bit missing. Which always makes me laugh.
“Because strokes, basically, as soon as any part of your brain doesn’t get blood for a second, it’s gone.
“And so the blood finds a different route to get around but then whatever bit it’s missing is therefore gone.”
Most brain aneurysms develop as a result of thinning artery walls which lead to a bulge in a blood vessel.

Emilia previously spoke of her fear after falling ill during series two of Game Of Thrones.
At the time she said: “Every day I thought I was going to die.”
She went on to have two operations, the second which she said left her “screaming in pain.”
Emilia recalled in 2019: “I had a massive bleed and the doctors made it plain that my chances of surviving were precarious if they didn’t operate again.

“This time they needed to access my brain in the old-fashioned way-through my skull. And the operation had to happen immediately.”
Emilia went on to launch her charity SameYou to help raise money for those suffering from strokes and brain surgeries.
