House of the Dragon: How is Rhaenyra related to Daenerys?

HOUSE of the Dragon has officially dropped and fans are loving it.

The prequel to Game of Thrones reveals the connection between Daenerys and Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Who is Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen on House of the Dragon?

Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen is supposed to be the direct heir to the throne due to being the only surviving daughter of Viserys I and his previous wife, in the House of the Dragon series.

However, she ends up fighting a civil war with her half-siblings - the children Viserys I had with Alicent Hightower.

Rhaenyra gets married twice, with the first to Ser Laenor Velaryon and the pair have three sons.

She then goes on to marry her own uncle Prince Daemon Targaryen, with whom she has two sons and a daughter: Aegon, Viserys, and Visenya.

The dragon rider doesn't get told when her father dies so her half-brother Aegon takes over the Iron throne which sparks a civil war.

How is Princess Rhaenyra related to Daenerys Targaryen?

Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones is a distant descendent of Rhaenyra Targaryen.

However, due to the new show taking place two centuries before Game of Thrones, there are more than a dozen Targaryen rulers between King Viserys I and Aerys II, Daenerys’ father.

There are nine generations between the women, which following complicated marriages in the years between, would make Rhaenyra something like Daenerys’ great grandmother times nine.

Daenerys, who is played by Emilia Clarke in Game of Thrones is 'the Mad King’s' daughter with his sister-wife Rhaella.

She is the youngest of their three children, after Rhaegar – Jon Snow’s father – and Viserys.
