The Goonies child star Sean Astin looks unrecognisable 37 years after smash hit movie
SEAN Astin has carved an enviable career in Hollywood over the past three decades.
Naturally, 37 years definitely changes a person, with Sean becoming part of many a fandom – but something about 1985 kids movie The Goonies – which saw a gang of friends on the hunt for pirate gold – has always stuck.
If you're a fan of the beloved film, did you realise that he has appeared in some seriously impressive roles since?
Most notably, his career got a massive boost in 2001 when he was cast alongside Elijah Wood in Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings trilogy – playing the sweet-natured Samwise Gamgee who helps Frodo with his mission to destroy the One Ring To Rule Them All, even when its powers started taking over his best friend.
Since then he has also appeared in Stranger Things, becoming a major player in season two as Bob Newby, a love interest for Joyce Byers and a helping hand when demogorgons started attacking the town of Hawkins, Indiana.
As dramatic as these roles were, he's also not afraid to stretch his comedy chops for a good part as well.

In 2004, he put on a memorable show in 50 First Dates as Doug, the steroid-addicted brother of Drew Barrymore's amnesia-suffering Lucy. Despite the small part, he became one of the most loved parts of the film.
And in the final season of the Big Bang Theory, Sean starred as Dr Greg Pemberton, a scientist who tried to swindle Amy Farrah-Fowler's name off the project that eventually earned her and Sheldon the Nobel Prize.
Basically, he's been a very busy guy, but the Goonies, which he starred in alongside Kerry Green, Corey Feldman, Josh Brolin and Martha Plimpton, remains one of the defining moments of his career.
Off-screen, Sean has been married to wife Christine Harrell since 1992, and together they have raised their own set of Goonies.
They have three daughters, Ali, 25, 20-year-old Elizabeth and 17-year-old Isabella.
