BBC News presenter gets stuck in lift for hours – and fears he’ll miss show

Thankfully, he had plenty of mobile phone battery and signal to pass the time, and instantly took to Twitter.

Writing to his 13.1K followers on Monday night at 7:33pm, Ben said: "One hour and counting stuck in this BBC lift.

"I’ve been promised rescue teams are on the way but no sign of them yet."

He shared a selfie from the lift looking rather stressed.

It instantly attracted attention on the platform, with many rushing to comment and check if he was ok.

Anne Ashworth asked him: "What music is playing?" to which he quickly responded: "Radio One - starting to drive me mad."

His comment provoked Radio 1's breakfast presenter Greg James to reply.

He jokingly told Ben: "I’ll give you a shoutout if you’re still there at 7am."

Just over an hour later, Ben let everyone know that he was still stuck in the lift.

He wrote: "Good news: a lift engineer is on the way.

"Bad news: he’s stuck in traffic and will be another hour."

At 9:04pm, Ben gave another update: "BREAKING NEWS: I’m free!!

"Almost three hours of incarceration but thanks to all for your concern (and bad jokes)."

The awful jokes continued, as one replied: "People telling jokes whilst you are stuck in a lift? That is wrong on so many levels."

Another teased: "Life is full of ups and downs Ben."
