ITV attempted a revival in the mid-Noughties for a couple of specials, including one to help survivors of the 2004 tsunami, but it failed to spark an anticipated full comeback.
However, in May 2022, The Sun exclusively revealed that the series would revive once more - this time on Channel 5 for a four-part series.
When The Sun first revealed the show was returning, a TV insider said: “There’s a real taste for bringing back classic shows right now, given viewers’ thirst for nostalgia.
“Anneka is hopeful a deal can be struck as she believes there is still plenty of life in the format and that she can also attract a new, younger audience.

“It was a much-loved show with good intentions, so there’s no reason why it can’t continue where it left off.”
How does Challenge Anneka work?
The 90s hit show saw the host being handed tasks with a deadline of two to three days — and having to persuade local firms and people to help her out for free.
The task would usually be in aid of a charitable cause, for example building a play area for children within the local community.
Viewers will recall her trademark blue truck and VW beach buggy — with her sound man and camera team perched on the back.
The new series will see Anneka, 64, once again packing up the big blue truck, jumping into her famous buggy, and calling on the selflessness, goodwill and big hearts of the nation.
From building a new home for dozens of abandoned dogs in Kent, to creating a new outdoor centre for vulnerable teens - show bosses promise challenges that are bigger than ever before.
