EMMERDALE has revealed Cathy Hope’s bombshell exit after 16 years.
The student - who is played by actress Gabrielle Dowling in the ITV soap - is suffering from an undiagnosed mental health issue that has seen her act out.

She has struggled to cope with mood swings and violent outbursts and being unable to control her own behaviour.
Viewers have seen Cathy struggle with the pressure of her illness on her exams and tonight she spiralled out of control again.
Stealing a bottle of vodka, she went and got drunk with Marshall instead of going to school.
She was fortunately found and kept safe, but next week she will leave the village for an extended break.

And tonight the soap has revealed where Cathy will be going when she leaves.
Brenda told her: “Your dad’s agreed that when your exams are over I can take you to the Lakes to see Scott.”
Long-time viewers know that Cathy’s older brother Scott hasn’t been seen in the village since 2007.
He was the son of Viv Hope, but is also the father of Zoe Tate’s daughter Jean.

The news that Cathy will be visiting him for an extended break has fuelled fan hopes that she will return with her half-sister Jean.
Currently as well as Kim Tate, Caleb and Nicky Miligan are also secret Tates, reviving the family group.
And fans can’t wait for more.
