BBC Breakfast viewers were taken aback by an 'awkward clash' between Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt on today's show.

The pair were on the BBC Breakfast sofa for the first time this week, and went through the day's newspaper headlines and stories in the first few minutes of the show.

Charlie, 61, started reading an article about the nation's favourite shop-bought sandwiches.

Naga, 48, said: "It is very different because I think you would buy a posher sandwich or a more intricate sandwich if it was already made for you than you would make at home."

Charlie agreed and then started reading out the sandwiches, with prawn mayonnaise coming out on top.

It prompted Naga to pull a face, and she screwed it up further when cheese and onion came in second.

After he had finished reading the list out, Charlie said: "I have to say, it is a very different thing, the sandwich you choose to buy off a shelf, to one you might make at home.”

Naga replied bluntly: "That's what I just said."

Charlie said: “No, I’m agreeing with you", prompting Naga to roll her eyes and jerk her body back in faux shock.

BBC Breakfast viewers were quick to discuss the moment on X - formerly Twitter - with one writing: "Naga’s eye-rolls off the scale this morning as Charlie mansplains the ins and outs of the great British sandwich.

"Good to see such heart-warming chemistry between presenters.”

Another tweeted: "@BBCBreakfast @BBCNews what is going on this morning with Charlie and Naga? There is certainly tension this morning…”

A third added: "It’s always slightly awkward as a viewer when Naga gets irritated with Charlie and rolls her eyes etc. I wish they were more professional and kept all that off-screen.”

A fellow viewer agreed, writing: "The bickering on a Thursday is always difficult to watch.”
