EMMERDALE star Matthew Wolfenden broke down in tears on This Morning today as he reflected on leaving the ITV soap.
Matthew has portrayed shopkeeper David Metcalfe for 18 years and was treated to a montage of his best bits on the daytime show.
After watching the nostalgic clips back, host Craig Doyle asked Matthew, 43: "Forget the work for a moment, I'd imagine just being in that family for that length of time, that's quite scary, leaving that. The familiarity of all that."
The star removed his glasses and wiped away a tear, before replying to Craig and Holly Willoughby: "Yes. Sorry. I'm still really emotional watching that."
Craig handed Matthew a tissue and Holly said: "It's been a massive part of your life."
"It has been a massive part of my life. I'm just so grateful," he replied.

Speaking about the storyline, the actor said: "The clip there where I'm totally bald, we did a testicular cancer storyline where David lost all his hair.
"I spent six months shaving my eyebrows and shaving everything to do that storyline, the pople I met through it people who survived cancer were amazing.
"I do feel as an actor I did it justice and as an actor that makes you proud."

When Holly asked "how are you feeling?" he told the This Morning: "I'm so nervous about leaving, it's been two decades.
