WEIGHTY QUESTION

Prue Leith, 83, reveals how she actually loses weight during Great British Bake Off

But she also told a podcast that there's still one thing she can't go without

PRUE Leith says she loses weight during The Great British Bake Off — because she sticks to a diet of cake and wine.

The judge, 83, put on a stone during the 2019 series but now adheres to a stricter regime when filming.

She said: “OK, people are all making the same thing but, if you think about it, all I have to do is eat a teaspoon of it.

“In a cake, you can get the filling, the icing and the sponge in one teaspoon.

“I don’t eat anything else.

“I don’t eat lunch and I don’t eat breakfast.”

Prue told a podcast the flaw in her strategy was that she was hungry when filming started and found it hard sticking to one teaspoon — although fellow judge Paul Hollywood was far more disciplined.

She said: “If you watch Paul, he never has more than one mouthful.

“I normally end up with two.”

However, there is one thing Prue will not miss out on.

She said: “When it comes to the evening, what I can’t forgo is a couple of glasses of wine.

“So my diet for several weeks is basically cake and alcohol.

“Probably not ideal, but it’s nice.”
