Presenter Roman Kemp asked the group how they felt about "stepping forward into a new journey" without Sarah, who sadly died aged 39 following her terminal breast cancer diagnosis two years ago.

Cheryl, 40, responded, saying: "It's very odd, if I'm completely honest.

"We've found every step of the way of this a bit weird. Being totally honest it will never be the same as it was."

Turning to place a hand on Nadine Coyle's knee, and with her bandmate holding her hand, Cheryl continued: "But we are just trying our very best to make it magical with Sarah in mind."

The singers including Nadine, Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh and Cheryl appeared dressed in black as they discussed their reunion after a decade away.

"We'd had loads of conversations coming up to our 20 year anniversary and obviously those conversations involved Sarah," Kimberley said.

"So sadly, after she passed away, that went out the window.

"We focused on other things. Then it was probably over the summer we spent a lot of time together. There was a kind of shift I suppose, we felt such an outpouring of love towards the group and for Sarah.

"Suddenly it just felt like, do you know what, maybe we are ready to celebrate those 21 years. And also celebrate her."

Cheryl agreed: Because she wanted to do it so much as well. We're going to honour her the best way we can and make it magical."

On August 26, 2020, Sarah made the heartbreaking revelation on Twitter that she had breast cancer and it had advanced to other parts of her body.

She explained that she dismissed a lump on her breast as a cyst during the pandemic, and only went to doctors when her skin began to bruise realising that something was seriously wrong.

Sarah was rushed to hospital with sepsis, as well as a failing kidney and liver - she was only saved by a medically induced coma.

She posted a photo of herself from her hospital bed and said she is "fighting as hard as I possibly can" and tweeted: "Earlier this year I was diagnosed with breast cancer and a couple of weeks ago I received the devastating news that the cancer has advanced to other parts of my body.

"I’m currently undergoing weekly chemotherapy sessions and I am fighting as hard as I possibly can."

However, on September 5, 2021, Sarah's mum, Marie, posted on Instagram to reveal that her daughter had passed away.
