Posting to social media, the 50-year-old revealed she's undergone major knee osteotomy surgery.

The operation sees medics cutting through the leg bone to alleviate symptoms of arthritis by realigning the foot.

Alongside a snap from her hospital bed, Karin said: "I’m out of action for a couple of months after a knee osteotomy surgery, but very much looking forward to being back on air on @BBCNews when I am up and running again!"

Beeb viewers and fans rushed to wish Karin a speedy recovery, with one saying: "Best wishes to you, Karin. Get well soon."

A second wrote: "That sounds painful wishing you a a speedy recovery Karin."

"Please get well soon! And looking forward so much to seeing you back," said a third.

While a fourth commented: "Ouch. Lots of rest, hope you’re being waited on hand and foot and look forward to seeing you back at work."

The operation is a fresh blow to Karin who was stood down by BBC News chiefs last year.

Karin and four other anchors were taken off air following the merger of the domestic and international news channels as part of cost-cutting.

Other seasoned broadcasters such as Geeta Guru-Murthy, Kasia Madera, Annita McVeigh and Martine Croxall also lost out on presenting gigs as a result of the overhaul.

However, previous reports revealed bosses at the corporation were offering all women permanent on-air roles again to avoid potential legal battles.

Karin's return was due soon along with Martine's, while Geeta and Annita have already returned to the studio.

A spokesperson for BBC News previously declined to comment on 'HR issues' when contacted by The Sun.
