BBC Breakfast fans were left annoyed after tuning in to see a young boy impersonating a seagull on the news programme.

Regular show hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent welcomed a nine-year-old onto the red sofa to show off his bird calls.

Cooper was all kitted out in a seagull costume complete with a beak as a hood for the occasion.

After the command came from Jon, he proceeded to squawk at the top of his lungs, accompanied by visuals of a seagull flying through the air on the screen behind him.

To Cooper's credit, he did sound uncannily like the feathered vagrants, but viewers felt the segment hardly constituted as news.

One person blasted the Beeb on social media, writing: "Currently a segment on BBC Breakfast featuring a kid who does a seagull impression. That's literally it. There are tons of TikToks of supremely talented young people but this is what the BBC is treating us to."

Another moaned: "BBC Breakfast has a boy on who can make seagull noises. Is this news?

A third even said the incident made them turn their telly off, sharing: "Switch TV on and see BBC Breakfast has gone full 'This Time with Alan Partridge' with a kid in a seagull suit. Turned off again."

When asked how he discovered his talent, Cooper shared that it came into effect after he was attacked by one of the winged creatures.

The boy said: "I got bit by one in Devon on Woolacombe beach and it swooped over my head and stole my ham sandwich, nicking my knuckle by accident. So I think it's a Spiderman effect."

Earlier today presenters were left reacting to a very different bird incident on BBC News.

Viewers and show hosts alike broke into fits of giggles after one member of the public sent in a naughty letter under the guise of asking an ornithology question.
