The toy specialist has revealed his greatest ever profit - giving budding buyers a sense of what to look out for.

He shared: "I once found an old scrapbook containing 1940s football newspaper cuttings at a car boot sale.

"I asked how much it was and was told £40.

"It felt a little steep for a dirty old scrapbook until I flicked to the back pages, which had 21 wartime single sheet football programmes neatly stuck onto them.

At this point, Tim said he had "quickly realised it was a bargain."

The star added: "It also had match tickets, bubble gum cards and autographs.

"I sold it for over £1,000 after I performed the painstaking task of steaming each item out of the book."

On the flip side, Tim also opened up about the biggest loss he has faced at auction.

He recalled: "My biggest loss was when I ‘blind’ purchased a collection of rock and film star autographs for £220.

"When they arrived they were all facsimile and worth about a tenner!

He then concluded: "Wow, it still hurts."

A previous Bargain Hunt episode saw a couple bag a rare three-figure profit after uncovering a hidden gem.

Karl and Nathalie were tasked with buying a fashion accessory and spent £130 on a vintage men's Omega watch.

The item - which dated back to the 1970s - was a very costly buy in Bargain Hunt terms.

In fact, there was so little cash left over that their other item was a £20 Clarice Cliff mustard pot that didn't have have a lid.

However, the gamble - or shrewd investment - paid off, with the pair doubling their money, which almost never happens with big-money items.

They wound up making £260 for the vintage watch - and were seen jumping up and down with joy at the Somerset auction house.

Bargain Hunt presenters

First airing on BBC One in 2000, Bargain Hunt sees two pairs of contestants tasked with buying antiques from a shop or fair and then try to make a profit at auction. With David Dickinson and Tim Wonnacott among the show's alumni, let's take a look at the current presenters.

  • Christina Trevanion: Aside from presenting, Christina is also an auctioneer and a partner in the firm of Trevanion & Dean in Shropshire. Her other TV appearances include Antiques Road Trip, Flog It! and The Travelling Auctioneers.
  • Eric Knowles: An antiquarian with a primary focus in ceramics and glass, Eric has also appeared on Antiques Roadshow, Noel's House Party, Call My Bluff and Going, Going Gone.
  • Natasha Raskin Sharp: Daughter of artist Philip Raskin, Natasha is an antiques and art expert, especially Scottish contemporary art. She has also featured in Antiques Road Trip, Flog It! and For What It's Worth, among others.
  • Charlie Ross: An antiques expert and auctioneer, Charlie's career dates back to 1963 by joining a local firm of estate agents after leaving school, later progressing to antique furniture. He has also popped up on shows such as Flog It!, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is and Antiques Road Trip.
  • Caroline Hawley: Away from the Bargain Hunt cameras, Caroline also runs a successful antiques business in Yorkshire.
  • Danny Sebastian: Having joined Bargain Hunt as an expert in 2017, Danny became part of the presenting team in 2022.
  • Roo Irvine: Initially signing up for the show as an antiques expert, Roo later became a main presenter for Bargain Hunt. She's also appeared in Antiques Road Trip and Flipping Profit.

And even the mustard pot with out the lid made Nathalie and Karl a £4 profit.

A set of bowls they'd bought earlier was also a modest winner, bagging the contestants another £16.

In the end, the pair made a whopping profit of £149 - a small fortune in Bargain Hunt terms, where contestants regularly go home with either pennies or a thumping loss.
