TV stardom

Although they had crossed paths prior to filming Top Gear, the famous trio truly became friends on the BBC show.

Richard and Jeremy joined Top Gear in 2002, with James joining the following year.

They filmed several iconic specials, including trips to Vietnam and the USA, as well as playing host to many celebrity guests.

After leaving the programme, the trio launched another TV show in 2016.

The Grand Tour ran until 2024.

Jeremy revealed that he felt he had aged out of the programme, prompting his decision to leave.

He said: "After 36 years of talking about cars on television, I’m packing it in, because I’m too old and fat to get into the cars that I like and not interested in driving those I don’t."

The TV star revealed that leaving the show was difficult because many members of the crew had worked with the trio since Top Gear.

Jeremy said: "Where I would have been emotional was saying goodbye to the crew because most of them started with us.

"There's a photograph taken on Kubu Island of Russ Edwards and Casper Leaver (Camera Operator) and Andy Wilman, who were there on the original crew, and they're still with us.
