Seven-year-old Rex was taken to A&E with appendicitis last week, and had to get his appendix removed.

Covering Rex's face with an emoji, the youngster's blonde hair was shown as he sat in a hospital bed in a photo shared on Greg's Instagram Stories.

"We’ve had an eventful few days," the Olympian wrote. "Finished up with TCA Camps on Thursday to Rex going straight in to hospital with appendicitis that night."

In a second photo, which saw the tot lying in bed with his face covered once again, he added: "He was so brave start to finish and now back at home requesting all the food.

"Think those hours he was nil by mouth has scarred him."

He later shared he had taken his other two children, Milo, 10, and three-year-old Daphne, trampolining to get them out the house while Rex recovered.

Greg previously joked that middle child Rex was "accident prone" just like him – with both of them suffering injuries over the last year.

Last year, Rex was taken to hospital again after a head injury, with Greg noting: "It would seem we have created my exact replica in Rexy.

"Another head injury to leave another scar.

"He's got a few more to go to match me but he's doing his best to catch."

Greg has had his own injuries to deal with over the past year, showing off scars and swelling after he slashed open his stomach open in Dancing on Ice rehearsals.

Greg Rutherford gives health update after horror Dancing On Ice injury left him with his abs detached - as he confirms talks for ITV show return

Greg was forced to pull out of the ITV series back in January following a mystery injury which left him in hospital and his stomach "in a bad way."

Shortly afterwards, the dad-of-three told of the exact moment his battle for the Dancing On Ice title ended - in a routine which saw him dressed as a sailor.

The injury happened when he slid between his professional partner, Vanessa James' legs on his front, slicing his stomach in the process.

Speaking to Lorraine Kelly, 64, on her show after his exit he said: "I am a lot better thank you.

"I have had to have surgery to repair the injury, so I had a pretty nasty hernia form and I also detached my lower left ab so less than ideal."
