GOOD Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway screamed in horror on today's show as co-host Ben Shephard appeared to hack off a huge chunk off her hair.

Kate shouted "Ben!" as he took a pair of kitchen scissors to the back of her barnet.

The GMB hosts had been discussing a viral moment on Turkish TV where a woman fainted after getting too much hair cut off during a makeover segment.

The woman burst into tears before passing out.

"I'd be the same," Kate, 52,  admitted. "It is a big thing for women isn't it, hair?"

Ben, 44,then asked her: "Would you ever let me cut your hair?" before pulling out a pair of scissors.

"You're not a trained hairdresser and those look like sewing scissors!" Kate responded.

Undeterred, cheeky Ben then reached round to the back of Kate's head and chopped away.

Kate screamed: "No, don't don't don't, seriously, Ben, honestly!"

As Ben then held a mass of blonde locks in his hand, Kate looked mortified.

"That is not funny," she told him, as she raked her hands through her hair. "You can't do that to someone."

Newsreader Charlotte Hawkins looked horrified too as Ben claimed cutting her hair was "harder than he thought."

Kate then seemed like she might burst into tears as she said: "I'm not very happy. Have I got a massive hole at the back?"

But before Kate got too upset, Ben put her out of her misery and revealed it was all part of a prank.

"Before anyone gets particularly carried away, don't worry, it wasn't real," he confessed.

He then explained how the hair and make up team had sneakily put some hair extensions in Kate's locks that morning without her realising.

"I pulled a fast one," Ben confessed, looking pleased with himself.

As the relief washed over her, Kate put her head in her hands and admitted she would have been furious if it was real.

"That was nearly the end of a very beautiful twenty year friendship," she told him. "I was really traumatised!"
