The Good Doctor boss confirms Dr Carly Lever has been axed as series regular after Melendez’s death

THE Good Doctor's season three finale ended in truly dramatic fashion, with multiple series regulars leaving the show.
One such name is Dr Carly Lever (Jasika Nicole), who will not be coming to the show for season four of the medical drama.
Jasika Nicole won't be returning for season 4TV Line first reported that she would not be returning in her usual capacity and she hasn't been seen on screen since her romance with Dr Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) ended.
The couple ended their relationship in the Autopsy episode.
However, there is opportunity for her to return in a guest appearance capacity.
Executive producer David Shore has said that they could bring her back for a limited run of episodes.
He explained: "I would love to have her back here and there.
"I love Jasika, and would love to see her on the show, but it will not be in the same capacity."
Carly has been on the show since the second episode of the first season - Mount Rushmore.
She first made an appearance as a recurring character until being promoted to a series regular for season three, as her relationship with Shaun became serious.
Carly realised that Shaun was still in love with Lea Dilalo (Paige Sparo), prompting her to end the relationship.
Another character who recently left the show was Dr Neil Melendez (Nicholas Gonzalez), who died of sepsis in the season three finale after sustaining injuries during the earthquake.
However, Gonzalez feels his character has much more to say following his death.
He told Entertainment Weekly: "Part of me is sad to see a character I respected a lot go, someone I felt that still had a lot more to say but there wasn't always that opportunity, and I feel like we really built a beautiful world around that character, as much as can be in a show like ours where we're still a procedural as well.''
The Good Doctor airs on ABC.
