Power show boss reveals the two real-life figures who inspired James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick

POWER boss Courtney Kemp has revealed the two real-life figures who inspired the character of James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick.

In a Q&A with fans, the showrunner said the drug lord – played by Omari Hardwick - was inspired by famous rapper 50 Cent, as well as her own father.

She said: “Ghost was inspired by my Dad and 50 Cent.”

50 Cent - who serves as an executive producer on the show - was involved in selling drugs before pursuing his career in music.

The first episode of the American crime drama was also dedicated to Courtney’s father, Herbert Kemp Jr., who passed away in 2011.

Courtney denied one fan’s theory that Ghost could’ve been inspired by Lemond Bishop in The Good Wife (Mike Colter).

Courtney explained: “Lemond Bishop isn’t scary. He’s not really that frightening. He was played a little bit frightening, Mike Colter really played him beautifully. But it’s not the same kind of intensity as Ghost.”

The plot follows Ghost as he tried to cut ties with his life of crime and begin a new career as a businessman.

But in season six he is murdered by his own son Tariq.

Courtney previously explained why the entrepreneur had to die.

"There are a lot of people who have given me so much heat about killing Ghost and for a lot of them - like I understand he's a part of the family for them after six years, and I wrote him to be someone to look up to - but, in the beginning of the show, I always promised that Ghost would end up dead or in jail.

"He didn't get out in time. Ghost had a lot of opportunities to get out, he didn't, he made a lot of choices that were antithetical to his stated purpose.

"Ghost made a lot of mistakes and he made a ton of mistakes right as he was about to reach his goal. I know a lot of people had problems with it but for me, it was the only way to end it."

Power season 6 is available to watch on .
