HAYLEY Atwell has left Marvel fans devastated after she shut down Agents of SHIELD Peggy Carter cameo rumours.
The 38-year-old actress played the agent in a number of Marvel films as well as in the short-lived spin-off series, Agent Carter.
After Agents of SHIELD's final season opened with the team going back in time to Peggy's era, many fans have been hoping the character will make one final appearance.
But after a fan commented on her Instagram that they hoped to see her in Agents of SHIELD soon, she shot down rumours once and for all with a simple "No" before adding a peace hand emoji.
While Hayley won't return to play Peggy in person, she is lending her voice to the character for animated series Marvel's What If... on Disney+.
One episode will see Peggy be Captain America, with Hayley previously saying at D23 last year: "It feels like the gift that keeps on giving.
"The fans, they love Peggy, they've brought her back."
While Hayley isn't reprising her role for Agents of SHIELD's final season, her former Agent Carter co-star Enver Gjokaj has as Daniel Sousa.
Daniel was Peggy's love interest in Agent Carter, despite her heart really belonging to Captain America/Steve Rogers.
Speaking to about their relationship and what may have transpired between them after Agent Carter ended, Enver said: "I think that when it comes to Daniel and Peggy, he’s just going to be into her for the rest of his life.

"She is the one that got away for him. Or the one that he got. Either way, she’s the one."
However Marvel fans will know Peggy was reunited with Cap/Steve in Avengers Endgame after he traveled back to the past and decided to stay there.
Of their reunion, Enver said: "I thought it was wonderful. I thought it was a beautiful way of ending their story.
"And I’ve said this before, I think that it actually makes the romance between Daniel and Peggy that much more bittersweet."
Agents of SHIELD seasons 1-5 are available to stream on Disney+ while season 7 airs on ABC in the US. A UK release date is yet to be confirmed.
