I’M A CELEBRITY 2020 contestants should be ready for a “really, really tough” year, says previous camp mate Joel Dommett.

Joel, who came second in 2016, revealed his thoughts about the show, which is set to be filmed in Wales instead of Australia due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Recent photos from the new I'm a Celebrity… set showed the crew are hard at work crafting a terrifying task area as they rush to get Gwrych Castle ready ahead of the launch.

Hovering high above the creepy castle ruins, a drone captured workmen rebuilding part of the structure with wooden beams.

"I think it would be really tough. They are guinea pigs," Joel told . "I went in and there had already been 16 casts in before me and you kind of knew to a certain degree what to expect.

"This year, there's no idea what to expect, and you know because it's different, they are going to throw everything, including the kitchen sink at them.

"It will be absolutely mad, I am so excited about this and I haven't been this excited about anything for a while. I think it's going to be huge. I can't wait to watch it going, 'oh and it's that cold there as it is for us here'.

"I think we can feel a bit more sorry for them, it's going to be really cold, they are going to be really hungry and the Welsh countryside can be very unforgiving. I assume there will be heights, caves, and zip-lines involved. They won't allow it to be 'oh that's fine', they are going to really go for it."

Talking about the obvious difference between the weather of the two locations, Joel revealed a glimmer of Australian sunshine can sometimes be the difference of staying or leaving.

He said: “There's moments where you are really hungry, smell terrible, miss your family, and then there's just a glimmer of sun through the trees and that moment would give you life.

“Take that away and it's going to be really tough. When it rains, it does really break people, I feel for them but the beauty of the show is the more it breaks people down, the more you get out of it. I think they will really bond.”

It was revealed at the end of September, it was reported the show was under threat as Wales was hit by new lockdown rules.

The county of Coney is under new restrictions on social bubbles and meeting indoors.

The new guidance for Conwy has been posted online by the Welsh government and states "people will no longer be able to form, or be in, an extended household (sometimes called a bubble)".

It adds that "meeting indoors with anyone who is not part of your household (people you live with) is not allowed at the moment".

Meeting indoors can now only go ahead with a "good reason" for example "providing care to a vulnerable person".

Most devastatingly for the show's production team "people will not be allowed to enter or leave the Conwy County Borough area without a reasonable excuse".

An ITV spokesman told The Sun Online: "I'm A Celebrity continues to adhere to all relevant guidelines as well as our own strict Covid protocols."

An official launch for the show has yet to be set but it is usually sometime in mid-November.
