Dermot’O’Leary’s motoring show scrapped by BBC after dismal ratings
The Getaway Car has been one of many flops for the X Factor presenter

IT’S no wonder DERMOT O’LEARY has crawled back to The X Factor after a year off.
Anything he stars in outside of SIMON COWELL’s talent show ends up a flop.
I’ve learned Dermot’s latest show The Getaway Car, which he fronted with Top Gear’s The Stig, below, has been given the boot by Beeb bosses due to dismal ratings.
Its failure is the latest in a long line of telly disasters for Dermot.
He also hosted ITV’s The Marriage Ref in 2011, BBC’s Dermot Meets in 2010 and Channel 4’s Live From Space in 2014, which were all axed after one series.
The Getaway Car was billed as the ultimate Saturday night entertainent show but drew in just 2.4million viewers, well below the average 5.6million for the 6pm Saturday night slot.
A second series, which was filmed at the same time as the flop first run, will air this summer but the BBC will not film a third.
A source revealed: “There were high hopes for The Getaway Car but it just didn’t get the ratings and is deemed not good enough for Saturday nights.
“There’s a huge shake-up after the BBC lost The Voice to ITV and bosses want new shows to compete with ITV on a Saturday night.
“Although they will show another series from footage filmed last year, there are no plans to film new episodes.”
The Getaway Car was shown on Saturdays before The Voice.
Now GARY BARLOW’s new talent show Let It Shine will fill The Voice’s prime-time slot and producers are looking for something more exciting than Dermot’s show to lead into the TAKE THAT star’s programme.
A spokesman for the BBC said: “No official decision has been made on whether the show will be recommissioned.”
Dermot had spent much of his time slagging off The X Factor after he left the show last year.
He even said Simon should “take it off the air”.
Enough of your shows have been taken off the air already, Dermot.

Nic switch was cat-astrophe
ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER said he felt like an “absolute twot” after NICOLE SCHERZINGER quit musical Cats after he landed her the gig in Broadway.
And he wasn’t the only person left seething.
It has now emerged that Nicole’s manager resigned over her decision to ditch the show to take back her X Factor judging role.
Legendary composer Lloyd Webber, who has replaced Nicole with LEONA LEWIS as Grizabella, revealed: “I had to fight to get her into the Broadway production.
“The American producers had not seen what she could do.
“She took them to the eleventh hour and everything was agreed with her manager, who has since resigned over this.
“He’s not representing her anymore.”
There is even more grim news for Nicole, too, as Lloyd Webber reckons she will struggle to land a role in a musical again.
He added: “I just wanted her to be able to show the Broadway community how good she is.
“I hope she will get another opportunity, but the chances are not great, because it’s a very small world there.”
Despite this, Nicole is keen to keep things amicable with the iconic composer and is hoping the pair can “create more magic together” in the future.
Last month she admitted: “I had every intention of doing Cats on Broadway but the contract was never finalised.
“I am incredibly blessed to be given so many amazing opportunities, including Cats, but unfortunately we weren’t able to make it work this time around.
“I adore and respect Andrew, I’m so grateful for our friendship and can’t wait for the opportunity to create more magic together.”
I revealed earlier this year how Universal are re-making a movie of Cats, so there’s still hope left for Nicole.
Christie mystery lined up
FROM Marcella and Peaky Blinders to The Five and New Blood, this year’s telly has been packed with thrilling murder mysteries.
Now the BBC has thrown another dark drama into the mix by commissioning AGATHA CHRISTIE whodunnit The Witness For The Prosecution.
It follows the huge success of last year’s adaptation of Christie’s novel And Then There Were None, starring AIDAN TURNER.
The hunky Irish actor, who showed off his abs playing character Philip Lombard, helped the three-parter draw an audience of more than eight million.
The new drama is based on a short story and stage play and is mainly set in a 1920s courtroom.
It follows the case of Leonard Vole, who is accused of the murder of glamorous and wealthy widow Emily French after she unwisely makes him her heir.
Can’t wait to see who the Beeb has cast as the mysterious Mr Vole.
Zara quits Love Island
JUST days after being stripped of her Miss Great Britain crown for having sex with fellow Love Island contestant ALEX BOWEN, beauty queen ZARA HOLLAND has dramatically quit the dating show.
She had spent almost three weeks in Majorca on the ITV2 programme but left for the UK on Saturday.
It was nothing to do with her raunchy antics though.
She rushed home to be with her mum who has taken ill.
Zara said in a statement: “I’m so sad to leave the villa but it’s important for me to get home and spend time with my mum while she gets better.”
Viewers saw her sob on telly last night when she was told she had lost her Miss GB title.
Although 6,000 people have signed a petition to reinstate Zara as Miss GB, organisers say they warned her not to get frisky on TV.
Zara’s return to Love Island is still very much open.
A show spokesman said: “In light of the nature of her departure we would leave the door open for Zara to return should she wish to depending on circumstances in the villa.”
Couples at war and peace
BITCHING and bust-ups between married couples are what you’d expect to see on ITV’s The JEREMY KYLE Show.
But now BBC Two has got in on the dramas. Mr vs Mrs: Call The Mediator is a three-part documentary starting tomorrow at 9pm.
It follows nine separated couples as mediator Irene Jackson coaxes the warring exes into calmly discussing their issues and resolving disputes to avoid a messy court case.
At least she didn’t need one of Jeremy’s on-set burly security guards.
