DAVID Hasselhoff believes that his music inspired the reunification of a nation - but this summer he's more interested in making the perfect holiday soundtrack.
The 63-year-old has teamed up with First Choice to make the ultimate summer anthem - but true to form, he's more inspired by Las Ketchup than La Bamba.
Speaking backstage at the shoot for the holiday giant's new ad campaign, he said: "First Choice ask me to come up with a tune, but instead of coming up with a really great tune, I come up with this really cheesy, horrible one.
“I’m kind of a frustrated singer, and there was a little bit of humour involved.
"I love doing things that some people would take really seriously because I don’t take anything seriously.
"While some people aren't convinced by my idea, I think it's great - and that's my take on this commercial - it's so great and it is so funny."
In our exclusive behind the scenes clip - part of First Choice's Summer Hoff Music campaign - the US actor gets a dolphin tattoo on his neck - but true to his egotistical persona, it features HIS face.
Other adverts in the series will show The Hoff returning to the studio - but things might not go to plan.
Music is an integral part of First Choice's all-inclusive holiday experience, and The Hoff follows in the footsteps of Aleesha Dixon who teamed up with the brand last year.
David, who days after speaking to The Sun jetted off with fiancee Hayley Roberts for a two-week break in a First Choice resort in Barbados, has become synonymous with the sunkissed beach lifestyle after starring in Baywatch - which was once the world's most watched TV show.
And as die hard fans of the Knight Rider legend will know, when it comes to cracking out a summer banger, The Hoff has been there, done that and got the T-shirt.
Back in 1991, David scored an international hit with his single Limbo Dance.
He told The Sun that he first debuted the track in Oslo, and was anxious about how it would be received by the normally straight-laced Norwegians.
He said: "I sang Limbo Dance at a festival in Oslo in Norway.
"I said to the guys backstage, 'I can't do this, they'll laugh me off the stage'.
"I was encouraged to do it, and I had all these dancers, so I said let's get a limbo pole and get the audience involved.
But disaster struck moments before he took to the stage when there was no limbo pole to be found.
Thankfully a quick-thinking dancer improvised with the dad-of-two's microphone stand, and the audience loved it.
David added: "The whole audience went mad, and they all wanted to get on stage and dance under the pole.
"I only recorded Limbo Dance because the Germans like Calypso music - I never knew how big it would become.
"That song was a massive hit in Germany and we shot the video in Jamaica, and that's what started my love for visiting different beaches."
But David didn't just give his adopted homeland an excuse to bend and twist to steel drums, he gave them much more - a reason to hope.
David revealed that his most die-hard fans still live in Germany, and many still thank him for playing a big part in the reunification of their country after he performed I've Been Looking For Freedom on top of the Communist barrier.
He said: "I have a great relationship with Berlin, they even made a documentary called Hasslehoff vs The Berlin Wall.
"In it I interview people who escaped - people who flew out, ziplined across and tunnelled - and they all knew me.
"I ask them if they know the song and they say they did but they only understood one word... 'freedom'.
"It was really emotional."
