Coronation Street boss Kate Oates admits stars’ anger at six-times-a-week plan

Six episodes a week of the long-running soap will run in 2017

CORONATION STREET boss Kate Oates has confirmed that cast members have been angered by the long-running soap moving up to six episodes a week.

The former Emmerdale producer, who joined the cobbles in April, admitted yesterday the stars were particularly concerned with the prospect of giving up their weekends.

Speaking from the Rovers set, she said: “With things like weekend work, which it was reported that the cast were very worried about, that has been raised as an issue.

"But we’re going to work against doing that if we possibly can.”

The move to six episodes, which is a first in the history of the ITV soap, will be in 2017.

Oates added that the signings of new cast members will help take the pressure off current Corrie stars.

She said: “When it comes, I don’t think it will be a huge shock to the system at all because we will look at how we schedule things and I don’t think there will be a big difference to the way people work.”

The Sun revealed earlier this month that staff feared standards would slip with the move.
