Classic weepy Beaches is getting a remake … starring Elsa from Frozen
Broadway star and actress Idina Menzel will take the leading role of CC, originally played by Bette Midler
ICONIC weepie chick flick Beaches will be given a re-boot with the help of Frozen heroine Idina Menzel.
The raven-haired beauty will lend her belting vocals and stunning stage presence to the main role of CC, originally played by Bette Midler, in a new rendition of the 1988 classic.
After blasting out the likes of catchy Let It Go in her Disney role, she'll now be busy learning the lyrics to hits including Wind Beneath My Wings and The Glory of Love on the film's memorable soundtrack.
Yet Garry Marshall's classic will also be given a modern spin with new songs to be recorded by the Broadway star.
The plotline will remain the same and tell the tale of the childhood friendship between a struggling entertainer and privileged debutante over the years.
The pair - singer CC Bloom and lawyer's daughter Hilary Essex (Barbara Hershey) - meet unexpectedly on the Venice Boardwalk and share a close bond that spans decades.
Fans were glued to the original super-emotional screenplay, originally adapted by Mary Agnes Donoghue from a novel by Iris Rainer Dart, which went on to gross 57million dollars at the Box Office.
This time round, Lifetime will lead the re-make with producer Denise Di Novi, of chick flick Crazy Stupid Love, taking the helm alongside Alison Greenspan.
Production on the new release will begin this month yet fans will have to wait until 2017 for its premiers on the big screen.

Yesterday, Idina teased fans with a hint about her big news.
She took to Twitter to write: "Nothing can compare to tonight but I have some pretty cool news to share with you in the morning, you'll never guess."
Today Idina, followed up with the post: "Exciting news coming very soon! About an hour from now," before the cat was finally let out of the bag and she added: "Can't wait to start shooting."
News of the re-make came just days after Garry Marshall's death, aged 81, yet the idea is said to have been in the pipeline for nearly 12 months.
The beauty has a history of musical theatre and screen roles spanning everything from TV series Glee to Broadway hit Wicked and, of course, Frozen.
Following her huge career news fans of Idina, 45, took to social media to share her excitement.
One superfan wrote: "We are so excited for the news! Can't wait to see you in Beaches," while another added: "A huge congratulations to you @idinamenzel xoxo."
Another chuffed follower added: "Beaches remake! You made my day! Wind beneath my wings! #fan #support best of luck!"
