SHERRIE Hewson made an emotional thank-you to fans today as she spoke about the reaction to her leaving Loose Women.
After watching a montage of news reports about the imminent departure of the show's longest running panellist, she became teary-eyed.
Co-host Andrea McLean introduced the montage, saying: "Earlier in the week you announced the sad news you are leaving us.
"The news has been terrible, the whole world is up in arms."
Sherrie replied: "You've started me off again now," as the tape began to roll.
After watching the short clip, Sherrie looked visibly upset.
She said: "I just want to say briefly thank you very much to everybody out there as the response has completely gobsmacked me.
"Thank you to everyone here and you girls, I love all of you, and everybody backstage."
Andrea then laughed, "People are stopping me in the street saying 'will we never see Sherrie ever again?'
"By September 5th rolls around you'll be glad to see the back of her."
The bubbly star announced the news on Wednesday’s show as she sat on the panel alongside Coleen Nolan, Vicky Pattison and Andrea McLean.
There were tears all round as the 65-year-old told viewers: “I think Loose Women is one of the most important shows on television, everyone relates to it.
“It’s been incredible. I’ve been here for 14 years and when I first came here I was not in a good place, my husband had gone and I was not happy.
“These girls have been amazing – they’ve got me through everything.”
