Post-mortem showed the entertainer, 62, died from 'natural causes'

But a post-mortem showed David, 62 — best pal of Michael Jackson and ex hubby of film star Liza Minnelli — died from “natural causes”.

US attorney Edward Bearman, who has been dealing with Gest’s estate, told the Sun on Sunday: “I’ve been told David died from a stroke.

Gary Veazey, the executor of the former CBB star’s will, added: “He died of a stroke.”

It is believed there had been a delay in the release of the results of his autopsy because cops may have been probing mysterious circumstances in which he died.

Police initially described his death as “unexplained”.

Scotland Yard confirmed there would be no investigation into Gest’s death in his room at London’s swanky Four Seasons Hotel - describing it as “non-suspicious”.

Poplar coroner’s office said no inquest will take place because Gest, who once once married to Hollywood star Liza Minnelli, 70, had “died naturally”.

A source close to his family said: “Knowing that David’s death was from a stroke has provided relief to the whole Gest family.

“It doesn’t help to bring David back but it gives us piece of mind that nothing untoward happened.

“We are still very much grieving him but this news helps with the process.”

Gest had been suffering from extremely high blood pressure or hypertension.

Strokes are one of the side effects of hypertension and occurs when pressure builds up in arteries.

It is believed the entertainer spent the last 48-hours of his life alone in his suite at the hotel where he had been living for six months.

His body was found by security staff on April 12 after concerns he had not been seen for two days.

Bottles of sleeping pills and medication for pneumonia were found at his bedside - fuelling fears he had become disorientated by a cocktail of medication.

Imad Handi was David Gest's bodyguard for 16 years

His former bodyguard Imad Handi, 38, believed he may have been on the phone to Gest when be passed away.

He told The Sun: “I answered the phone (to Gest) and was like, ‘Hello, hello, hello?’, and I heard something smash on the floor.

“Part of me froze and then the phone went dead. Unfortunately he didn’t call me back.”

Rumours had been rife that Gest may have been in debt by up to as much as £500,000 and even had a crippling gambling addiction.

But his US attorneys refused to comment on when his estate will be settled, reveal how much he was worth when he died or where his money will go.
