Game of Thrones takes home top gong as Tom Hiddleston goes home empty handed at the Emmy Awards

GAME Of Thrones took home the most fought-over gong of the night to top of an amazing string of wins for the UK at this year's Emmy awards.
The HBO fantasy series took home the prize for Best Drama - beating out UK rivals Downton Abbey as well as The Americans, Better Call Saul, House of Cards and Mr Robot.
UK talk show hosts John Oliver and James Corden also faced off for the title of Best Variety Talk Series alongside big wigs Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel - with John Oliver bringing it home for the Brits with another win.
James later got to give out the award for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, which was received by Jeffrey Tambor for Amazon series Transparent.
Dame Maggie Smith was awarded with the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for her role in Downton Abbey, but was unable to attend the event to claim her prize.
However, the biggest snub of the night was Tom Hiddleston who, despite being highly praised for his leading role in The Night Manager, failed to take home the gong for Actor in a mini-series - losing out to Courtney B Vance for his part in American Crime Story: The People Vs OJ Simpson.
Tom still managed to have a sweet moment on stage with his Night Manager director Susanne Bier - and was the host for the Best Director award for the show and was able to present her with her prize.
As Susanne took to the stage, the pair shared a long hug to celebrate the prestigious win.
