SOUR DOUGH?

GBBO fans speculate Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry in feud as he snubs her in statement

They’ve been close friends for years but has the Bake Off move caused a rift between the pair?

Fans are now wondering what Paul Hollywood will decide to do

WHEN Paul Hollywood released a statement confirming he’d be moving to Channel Four with The Great British Bake Off, he missed off one very important person: Mary Berry.

In a gushing statement, Paul said: “It's been a huge part of my life in the past few years and I just couldn't turn my back on all that - the bakers themselves, the bakes, the team that makes it.

“So I am delighted that I will be continuing as a judge when Bake Off moves to Channel 4. I want to thank the BBC and Mel and Sue for making my time in the tent great fun and really rewarding.”

Die-hard Bake Off fans were quick to point out his omission and inundated the 50-year-old with tweets calling out his decision to not thank Mary.

After endless messages on social media, Paul tried to rectify his mistake and tweeted 45 minutes later: “I'm staying in the tent with the bakers where I belong.

“I want to thank Mary. I'll miss her but she has made the right decision for her.”

Some fans weren’t content with his tweet however and goaded the baker further for missing her out.

One tweeted: “Nice one, after not mentioning her at all in your initial statement. Such disrespect.”

Another wrote: “Why did you not thank her in your press statement?”

81-year-old Mary confirmed she was leaving the show on Thursday, after the creators of Bake Off, Love Productions, revealed earlier this month the show would be moving to Channel 4.

In her statement, Mary said: “What a privilege and honour it has been to be part of seven years of magic in a tent - The Great British Bake Off. The Bake Off family - Paul, Mel and Sue have given me so much joy and laughter.

"My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one. I am just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change, I hope they understand my decision.”

She continued: “I wish the programme, crew and future bakers every possible success and I am so very sad not to be a part of it.

“Farewell to soggy bottoms.”
