I have definitely enjoyed being single. It’s been fun and I like flirting. I’m not on Tinder but I have met girls and got their numbers, then flirty-texted them. I haven’t been on many dates but it’s just nice not to have any responsibility. I’m supposed to be going on a date tonight with someone. She’s in the industry but I’m not telling you her name. We’ve never met before but she started talking to me on Twitter. It’s random, I know.

I was a very hyperactive child. I played for two football teams, two basketball teams, two badminton teams, a table tennis team and competed on the athletics team. So I was always doing something, which is really weird because I was such a fat child. I don’t think I noticed my weight, though – it’s not like today where kids are really conscious of their bodies. We didn’t give a s**t back then. It’s lucky I did all that sport, though, or I would have been huge.

There’s nobody in music doing anything that impresses me in the slightest. Music today is probably in the worst state it’s ever been. Everything I listen to is pre-2000. The sound seems cheaper now and people are rushing their music. I wasn’t crazy about Coldplay’s last album, or U2’s.

Going into acting is something I’ve thought about, but then I think about how much I hated making music videos. Doing the same shot three times used to freak me out, and that only lasted for 14 hours. Imagine being there for months?! Keith Duffy from Boyzone loves acting and tells me I’d love it, so if the right opportunity came long, maybe I’d give it a go.

My impatience is the thing I dislike most about myself. I have a temper, which rarely pokes its head out, but I do lose it. I play a lot of golf and watch movies – those are the two things that relax me and stop me getting agitated. That and hanging out with my dog.

I’m rubbish with money. I spend it until it’s gone, then I make more. My kids will be well looked after for the rest of their lives, but life’s too short to worry about it. I came from nothing, started this career with nothing and if I go out with nothing, at least I’ve had a f***ing blast.

I don’t know much about politics, but when you look at all the crap that’s going on with ISIS and all these attacks around the world, and you look at the idiots running our countries, like Donald Trump in America, it’s hard to find anyone to admire.

“I had kids when I was in my early twenties [Brian is a dad to Lilly-Sue, 13, and Molly, 15, with Kerry], so I grew up with them. My relationship with my girls is more of a friendship, rather than just being their parent. Everything we do together is fun and there’s no strictness.”
