Former Spice Girl Mel B teams up with The Sun to speak out about domestic abuse at Tory party conference

FORMER Spice Girl Mel B is teaming up with The Sun to speak out about domestic abuse at the Tory party conference today.

Mel, awarded an MBE this year for her work as a patron of Women’s Aid, will be on the panel at a fringe meeting hosted by the charity in partnership with The Sun.

She has been campaigning for greater support for survivors and also wants to highlight the devastating impact the cost of living crisis is having on women trapped in relationships.

The singer said: “It is important for me to raise this issue at the Conservative Party conference to ensure it is kept on the political agenda.”

Mel, 47, walked out on US TV producer Stephen Belafonte in 2017 and wrote about his coercive control in their marriage.

Earlier this year we launched Speak Out Against Domestic Abuse, a joint campaign between The Sun and charity Women’s Aid to highlight how we can all play our part.

Also appearing on the panel at the Birmingham conference are Home Office minister Mims Davies, Deputy Chief Constable Maggie Blyth, and Farah Nazeer, CEO of Women’s Aid.

It will be chaired by The Sun on Sunday political editor Kate Ferguson.
