Peter Kay divides viewers over ‘homophobic’ joke during awkward gaffe with Judge Rinder on Strictly Come Dancing

STRICTLY Come Dancing viewers were divided over comments made by comedian Peter Kay after he made an awkward gaffe about Judge Rinder on tonight's show.
Peter made a bizarre appearance on the BBC One reality show when he appeared among the contestants dressed in a yellow high-vis jacket and a strange black hat.
After pushing his way in front of the camera, Peter spotted Judge Rinder and said: "Let me say hello to this fellow - he's brilliant!"
Judge Rinder moved in for a hug but Peter quickly jumped away after he touched him and joked: "Steady, steady. Watch me lad. Watch it."
The British comedian then pointed at Rinder's bum and said: "This case is firmly closed".
However, a few viewers thought his gaffe was 'homophobic' while others thought it was a joke.
One viewer tweeted: "Am I the only one saddened to see #PeterKay rehashing homophobic tropes about predatory gay men in his reactions to #judgerinder #strictly."
Another agreed saying: "Not entirely comfy with the slightly homophobic routine Peter Kay just did then. Or is it just me?? #Strictly."
However, others disagreed with many saying he didn't mean to be offensive and that they loved him on the show.
One wrote: "What muppets are saying Peter Kay was homophobic on #Strictly? He was just making jokes, nothing offensive (bar his costume) about it."
Celebrity Big Brother's James Whale also disagreed: "#Strictly That has been the best bit ever,Peter Kay,brilliant...keeping the BBC one their toes literally."
Meanwhile, Danny Mac topped the leader board on tonight's show with a perfect score.
However, there were also problems as Claudia Winkleman revealed there would be technical difficulties with phone votes.
