What's it about?

Eight celebrities prepare to take on the L'Etape du Tour in France... in just three months.

A brutal 146km of endurance cycling through the French Alps, from Megeve to Morzine, L’Etape is the ultimate racing cycling challenge and the third largest participatory event in world sport.

Monitored and assisted by top-level coaches, the celebrities will also take part in various events together such as the notorious Tough Mudder challenge, aerial yoga and aqua cycling, as well as innumerable pampering sessions to ease the saddle sores.

The eight celebs will them battle it out in the main event as they are split into two teams of four.

They will also have a diary cam so viewers get an insight into all areas of their journey.

But this is no easy ride for the celebs, ex-MIC star Hugo had to be tended to by doctors back in June after injuring himself during training for the show.

And just yesterday Lucy Mecklenburgh shared a picture on Instagram of just one of the nasty injuries she picked up while taking part in Tour de Celeb.

Sharing the snap with her followers on Instagram, Lucy captioned the photograph: “Sooo looking forward to reliving all my cycling memories tomorrow night.

“One of the toughest experiences of my life, two months to train for one of the hardest cycling races in the world!

“Piece of cake…Right!?!”

Throughout her training and the race, the ex-Towie cast member shared pictures of her experience with her fans.

One brutal snap showed the blisters and cuts on her hands after she’d spent hours on her bike

A source said at the time: “The stars are already training. They have no illusions about how hard it’ll be.”

Louis Spence told : As a dancer I never had a major injury but doing this, everything’s tight – my hamstrings, my lower back, my hands ache from pulling the breaks, my shoulders ache from the bike position.

"The other day during a 20-mile ride, I fell off the bike and was physically sick twice."

What is L'Etape du Tour?

L'Étape du Tour (French for 'stage of the Tour') is an organised mass participation event that allows amateur cyclists to race over the same route as a Tour de France stage.

First held in 1993, and now organised by the Amaury Sport Organisation(ASO), in conjunction with Vélo Magazine, it takes place each July, normally on a Tour rest day.

L'Étape du Tour is normally held over mountain roads in either the Pyrenees or French Alps.

Around 15,000 riders participate - many travelling from other countries to compete - and the event takes place on roads closed by the police to other traffic, with refreshment stops and medical support provided along the route.
