Carol Vorderman opens up on secret battle with lung disease while on I’m a Celebrity
JUNGLE babe Carol Vorderman had a secret health battle while in camp after being diagnosed with severe bronchitis.
The former Countdown star, 55, had to be prescribed high-strength antibiotics after developing the lung disease while starring in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here.
She was put on bed rest by show medic Dr Bob McCarron and also given an inhaler after struggling to breathe and experiencing chest pains.
Carol revealed: “There’s a coughing virus going around, you will have heard it. Mine got worse and worse and worse then on Saturday I had sharp chest pains so I asked to see Bob.
“It was like breathing through bubbles. Once I got the chest pains, I thought I need something. He immediately put me on really strong antibiotics, electrolytes and glucose tablets.
"It took me two days to get over it. And by day three I felt much better. I was ill, properly ill.”
Even when we talk 12 hours after she left the camp in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, she is still medicated.
And she puts some of the blame of the freak health scare on spending so much time around the camp fire.
She said: “I was really unwell. It was a really bad proper chest infection. I’m still on the antibiotics now.
“You’ve got to remember you’re breathing in smoke the whole time.
“I was trying to do my jobs but they all kept saying just go to bed. I needed to just rest, rather than being in a rainforest.”

However Carol is now making the most of being out of the jungle, having last night welcomed a £250,000 offer to sign up to a dating site for “cougars” — insisting she no longer wants to be tied down to one man.
Speaking hours after her elimination from the ITV show, Carol said: “I’m the new a*se of Toyboy Warehouse. Yes, sign me up.”
Twice-married Carol, 55, admitted that she now prefers to have casual, non-committal flings to longer-term relationships.
She told The Sun: “Am I looking for Mr Right? Funnily enough, no. I meet a lot of men but I’m very happy. I think it’s marvellous.
“I’m not harming anyone. And everyone is single, if you know what I mean.”
Carol has been single since splitting from Red Arrows pilot Graham Duff late last year.
But she added: “I’m not out there looking for more occasionals. I’m very happy as I am. I’ve had a few offers in my time. Some wanted, some not so wanted.”
