NADIYA 'IS NEW PAUL'

Former Bake Off champ Nadiya Hussain ‘teased’ as part of new baking show with Mary, Mel and Sue

FORMER Bake Off champion Nadiya Hussain may be part of  a new baking show alongside  Mary Berry, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, the BBC has hinted.

It could be a sign that the broadcaster plans a new TV baking contest after losing Bake Off and  judge Paul Hollywood to Channel 4.

Director of content Charlotte Moore teased the plans while unveiling the BBC’s Christmas schedule on Thursday night.

She said: “There will be more news on what Mary Berry, Mel and Sue and Nadiya are doing next. Watch this space – some exciting news to come.”

BBC representatives refused to give any further details about the project, or even to confirm that it would be a baking show.

However, the announcement comes as insiders hint that the BBC will insist on its contractual right to have Channel 4 wait until 2018 to screen its new series of  Bake Off.

Channel 4 had hoped the BBC would waive this right, allowing it to broadcast Bake Off next year. It has already put out the call for contestants and plans to film  it in the summer.

The BBC’s tough attitude would suggest it is keen to air its own new baking show next year, unchallenged by the original format.

Bake Off was Britain’s most popular show when it was poached by the rival broadcaster in September in a £75million deal.

Nadiya, 31, won the series last year and is the show’s most famous contestant.

She signed an exclusive deal with the BBC in October to make segments for The One Show and to develop “new projects”.

Mary, Mel and Sue all announced in September that they would stay with the BBC rather than move to Channel 4 with Bake Off and former colleague Paul.
