The Walking Dead spoilers: Negan’s backstory to be explored as villain set to get even crueller as new promo video released

The zombie apocalypse show will finally provide some answers about the mysterious killer

The Walking Dead

THE WALKING Dead's Negan is going to become a lot less mysterious.

The evil killer - with a pet baseball bat -- will be sticking around for the foreseeable future to torture the gang more but viewers will find out something of his backstory.

Showrunner Scott Gimple has revealed there will be an episode devoted to Negan's origin story.

"I do believe it's in the future," he told Yahoo TV.

"There's a loose plan in place I have." He added: "It's some fairly far-flung stuff. In the future, you will see some stuff from that."

The episode will include the vital piece of information of how Lucille got her name.

It comes after actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays the baseball bat wielding maniac, has confirmed that the bearded brute will be a mainstay for the next outing of  the cult series.

Speaking to US radio host Howard Stern, he said: "I'll be around for season eight."

Then, dropping a hint of a spoiler for the rest of the series, he added: "The next two [episodes], I'm really big in. I'm f**king heavy in those."

Jeffrey, then went on to DEFEND the actions of Negan, who has become one of TV's most loathed villains after bludgeoning two fan favourites to death with a barbed-wire covered bat dubbed 'Lucille' in the first episode of series seven.

Viewers were left sickened as Negan smashed in Glenn and Abraham's heads with his horrific weapon of choice.

But Jeffrey thinks it wasn't that bad - and it was DESERVED.

He explained: "If you put yourself in this apocalyptic Zombie-fied world, I think anybody that's survived this long has probably done some bad things.

"They [Rick Grimes' group] killed 30 of my men while they slept.

"So far, I've tapped a couple of guys in the head with a baseball bat and all of a sudden it's the end of the world!"

His comments are in stark contrast to what he said on The Today Show, where he claimed that Negan had gone too far.
