SHERLOCK fans spotted a massive blunder during the highly anticipated first episode of series four on Sunday night.
While many were delighted their three year wait for new Sherlock episodes was finally over, others were quick to spot a big mistake during a scene where Martin Freeman's character Dr Watson wrote on his blog.
As he types about the fact he's going to be a father, one eagle-eyed viewer noticed the page on screen was actually a picture file called 'John Blog Page.jpg'.
Taking a screenshot, one viewer shared the gaff on Twitter, writing: "IM CRYING THEY HAVE HIM TYPING NOTHING ON AN IMAGE FILE THATS NAMED ‘JOHN BLOG PAGE.jpg’ #Sherlock."
Another simply said: "But 'John Blog Page.jpg' ? Come on. #Sherlock".
In one funny post, an account called Mind The Blog wrote: "Ah, so *that's* how we're supposed to do blogs - in jpg files! Thanks #Sherlock!"
Another viewer tagged the show's creator Mark Gatiss in a post and added: "@Markgatiss you know a show is quality when John's blog post is an image file titled "JOHN BLOG PAGE.jpg" #Sherlock".
The blunder didn't stop fans from raving about the episode though, with many left stunned by the shock death of Dr Watson's wife Mary.
The opening episode of series four, titled The Six Thatchers, left fans heartbroken as Amanda Abbington’s character dramatically died.
Mary was fatally shot as she jumped in front of a bullet aimed at Sherlock, played by Benedict Cumberbatch.
As she took her last dying breath she told her husband he was her “whole world.”
She also begged him to look after their new-born baby.
Dr John Watson responded: “'You made me so happy, you gave me everything I could have ever wanted.”
Mary, who recently gave birth to her first child Rosamund, sent viewers into total meltdown as she passed away.
However, the actress has revealed it wasn’t all doom and gloom while filming the scenes.
She revealed: “It was sensitively handled but it was good fun because I work with these guys and they are brilliant.
“It is a dream as an actor because you can be completely self-indulgent and go to town with it. And I probably did a bit.”
Benedict Cumberbatch also opened up about the emotional scenes.
He confessed: “It was emotional. This important part of Sherlock is suddenly no more in the most violent way imaginable.
"A mother as well as a wife and a dear friend. It was a very upsetting scene to film.”
